I forgot a few things earlier. Edgar and Everett Kovler had seats on the 50 yard line at Wrigley Field when the Bears played there (they did for almost 50 years ending in 1971 when they moved to Soldier Field). But Kovler (Jim Beam fame) had bench seats as well. So one Sunday, Dickie and I sat ON THE TEAM BENCH next to the last player on the Bear’s team. We got up to get errant footballs and threw them back to the Ref. We could have been killed sitting so close to the field…but back in the day (1950’s or early 60’s) no one thought about that. Hard to top that sports memory all you Dickie Greenwald fans.
The other memory I have was also at Wrigley, but this time it was baseball. The Cubbies stunk most of the time back then and we would go to games and could sit almost anywhere. Maybe 5 or 6 thousand fans is all that came to most games. We usually chose to sit down the line behind the Cubs bullpen (on the field in those days) and spend most of the game talking to the relief pitchers. Of course Dickie would often tell them what was wrong with their delivery etc.
The service was excellent. I’m sorry I could not attend. Miss you Dickie.

Dick and Sue have been our next door neighbors and friends at Porter Beach for over 35 years. Dick was always so athletic and active. And what a character! Our hearts are with Sue and their children and grandchildren at this time.

Hard to remember all the fabulous moments we had together. Getting to Cub games early and sitting in the bleachers shagging baseballs, Playing baseball on the “Green Gorilla’s, sneaking in the back door at Phil Schmidts with Edgar leading the way, being camp counselors at Camp Starlight in the Poconos and going to Grossinger’s on our day off and seeing Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell “teaching” the kids how to play basketball, walking in the door of the Greenwald home and finding loving chaos with Janice in charge, having Dickie ride his bike to Beverly Shores from Porter Beach and sitting on our deck for hours until he was too tired to make the ride back and we piled the bike in the car and I drove him home…I could go on and on-he was a great guy and will be missed.
