Obituary
Strong-willed, outspoken, and deeply principled, Roberta dedicated her life to education and advocacy. When she set her mind to something, she gave it her all. A lifelong learner, she earned her Master’s Degree from National Louis University in her 50s and went on to teach with devotion at Solomon Schechter Jewish Day School for 14 years. Beyond shaping the minds of countless students, Roberta developed cherished, lifelong friendships with her coworkers.
Roberta had an insatiable curiosity and a passion for lively political discussions and current events, rarely leaving uncertainty about where she stood. A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Roberta was thrilled to attend Game 7 of the 2016 World Series, fulfilling a lifelong dream. She was a passionate lover of music-especially The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Bob Dylan, all of whom she saw perform live. An avid traveler, she visited all 50 U.S. states and many international destinations. Roberta will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know and love her. Memorial donations can be made in her name to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), www.nami.org or Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation, www.lynnsage.org. Chapel service, Friday, November 7, 2025; 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park. I had the honor of co-teaching NAMI’s Family-to-Family program with Roberta and saw how deeply she touched everyone she met. Her warmth, honesty, and tireless advocacy inspired hope and healing in so many families. Through Family-to-Family and Sundays at One, she created a true sense of community and belonging that will live on through the lives she touched.

Max and Kirstin, even though I only met your mother a few times, she made an impression on me. After reading her obituary I understand why. She was such a devoted woman to all that she did. I’m so impressed by all that she accomplished in her lifetime. I’m so sorry for your loss. It is very difficult to lose one’s mother. May she rest in peace. Love, Mary Gorecki

Roberta was one of a kind person. She was dedicated to her students, friends, and most importantly family. I taught and worked closely with my friend for many years. She loved being a part of our Friday maj group, and really cared about being successful. Roberta always had a nice word to say to anyone she knew. I will always love her and miss her.

Mrs. Chernawsky was my teacher years ago at Solomon Schechter, and I still remember her so vividly. She was deeply passionate about education and truly pushed her students to be their best. Hearing of her passing is so sad. She was so very loved.
May her memory be a blessing.
