Artie was not just my first cousin he was my best friend. We had a special bond. I have known brave men but none braver than Artie. I have known storytellers but none better than Artie. I have known laughers but none laughed better than Artie. He could toot a horn with the best of them. He was blessed to have the love of Irv and Jacki and Ari and Robert and Oliver and Myra and Jay and a battalion of loved ones. That He no longer suffers is a blessing and suffer he did like no other I have known. Under fire he held his mud like a valiant knight in shining armor. He fought the good fight and won the battle and now is in The Light. I love my Cuzz he was my Hero. Artie made me a better man. RIP

To the Hackin Family,
I was introduced to Art in 1995 in the Bahamas. The first day we meet we clicked like we had been friends for ever, and we always said that we were brothers from another mother. We talked about everything, and one thing that I will always remember he had a love for his family. He talked about his son’s and Jackie, his father and mother. He would tell me the stories of him flying to Florida and driving his father back to Illinois. I just loved that because I too love my family and we are also close.
Helyn (my wife who called him Artie, and Kobe –Maltese dog) will deeply miss Art with his jokes and humor to get you to laugh if you are down and feeling sad. He always had a way to make you smile before we got off the phone after a long talk.
This is a tremendous loss and It deeply saddens us to hear of his passing. He will always be in our hearts forever.

Artie was, above everything else, a man who loved his family and embraced his extended family with the same kind of love. He was kind, funny, and loved to tell a good story. Artie heroically endured his long illness with grace and patience.
He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Artie was first and foremost, one of the sweetest men I have ever known. He loved his family with everything he had and spoke of them often. His sense of humor made light of any situation. He was persistent in his personal battles to overcome the battles of his life.
We met when he was the ace trumpet player in a band. (I thought he was the cutest guy I ever met. As another musician, we had a lot in common.) I tried not to be impressed by his little sports car, the giant Flukey’s hot-dogs………but, honestly, I couldn’t help but be completely happy. We went our separate ways, but, stayed in touch. I know each of the family by name….Irving(loving, talented dad),Jackie, in your baseball hat, tall Rob,the new papa, Ari, warm and talented like your dad,& Myra and Jay! And, of course, his dear mom, who taught him so much.
Artie was my beloved friend, offering me advice and help with my life. For me, he is not gone, but simply a breath away. No other person ever touched me like he did. Now, I wish that the family will mourn only with a sense of peace, knowing that Artie has made us all a little better just for being the wonderful man you knew. Oliver will be told many stories of his grandfather!
Please accept my sad, sincere condolences. May the Lord of All keep every one of you.
and a hug and pat on the head for Maven!
