Leo, Fred, Anne. I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I have so many fond memories of Joe and of your whole family going back to the days on Sawyer. Remember the time he took the whole gang of us to the ballgame? The meticulous care he took building a model ship? How much fun we had seeing Jeremy’s production of “Damn Yankees?” (with your mom and dad in baseball uniforms taking tickets). Finally, I don’t think I’ve had a good haircut since he retired. I’ll be out of town until Monday so can’t make it physically to the funeral or shiva, but I will be there with you in spirit. Sincerely, Barry

It seems only yesterday, we were at Leo and Sheryl’s wedding. Poor Joe had to cut and blow dry hair for the entire contingent from Toronto and then some more locals, for good measure.
It’s a sad day. It’s the end of an era. They don’t make them like Joe and his family and cousins from the old country any more. I will miss them all as you will.
My heartfelt condolences to all of you from my family here in Toronto. We wish you only good health and happiness in the future.
Love
Morris Heather, and our children

FRIEND and client for nearly FIFTY YEARS. Our conversations went from our kids to eventually our grandchildren to his pride of being a great-grandfather. Coming into the shop or home, I felt like a member of the family and became familiar with the Morton Family. For a few years, we shared the experience of oil painting once a week. While we had many friends in common, he never gossiped or said a bad word about anyone. A true gentle man and a gentleman.

When we moved to Skokie in 1972, I was 14 years old. For the next 30 years or so, Joe cut my hair. At varying times he cut my father’s and my father-in-law’s hair, as well as several of my friends. When all of my kids were very young, their first real hair cut was from Joe.
Joe was one of the nicest guys I ever met. I didn’t know he was a Holocaust survivor for about 20 years or so, he never discussed it.
Rest well, Joe. You deserve it.
