Mr. Joel Everett Cohen, age 73, adored son of the late Maury and Jeanne (Tillis) Cohen, beloved husband of Maxine “Macky” S. (nee Shikoff) for over 51 years. Loving father of Marc (Lori) Cohen and Mitchell (Becky) Cohen, cherished grandfather of Max, Samuel, Hayley, and Dylan, devoted brother to Myra Katz, treasured uncle of Samantha and Mauri. He was loved by many other relatives and friends. Joel enjoyed many hobbies and vocations. He was an avid fisherman and competed in numerous tournaments throughout the United States and Canada. He was also a coach for his sons’ youth football teams for several seasons. A passionate Cubs fan, Joel was ecstatic to see his team win the World Series last year. A lover of the arts, Joel was a member of the Des Plaines Theater Guild, performing as an actor, singer, and musician in a number of productions as well as working behind the scenes. One of his most famous roles was that of Teyve in Fiddler on the Roof. As a child, Joel was a member of the Tucson Arizona Boys Choir, which toured the US and Europe and appeared twice on the Ed Sullivan Show. Later, he was a member of the singing trio The Gnu Foke that also toured the US and Canada. Raised in old Tucson, Joel worked as a cowboy, riding horses and roping cattle. He moved to Chicago when he was fifteen, where he continued to live until relocating to southern Illinois to be closer to his son.
