Sarah Rebecca Vihon, nee Friedman, 98, beloved wife of the late Abram Vihon; loving mother of Carlene Sabath-Cohen (Fred Cohen and the late Larry Sabath) and Jerry Vihon; cherished grandmother of Renee Sabath and Robin Sabath; treasured friend of many. Private funeral service. The family will receive condolences on Friday from 12 Noon to 4 PM in the Library at the Self Help Home, 908 W. Argyle Street, Chicago, IL 60640. Here is a pic of us from 1968. Renee

I remember my grandma as an elegant woman from the 40s, 50s & 60s. Into the 70s she still kept up the styles of the times & some of my funkiest outfits in the 80s were hand me downs from her closet. Every visit to her 3 story walk up off Howard would include a trip to the closet to pull out a 1950s grey & black plaid dress or mustard yellow checked skirt & blazer from the 40s. I cherish those moments with her as she always would say as soon as I arrived, ‘what do you want to eat’ with the excitement only a grandma has. And then she always would slip me a $5 bill as if there was someone watching, ‘put that in your purse’ she would exclaim excitedly. Even in my 40s she was still giving me gelt when I would visit. I don’t feel sad for her now but happy that she is taking the next step on her journey. She has lived a very long life & I think now she is finally at rest.
