“Hiya Kiddo” . . . and with this greeting, Aunt Mildred welcomes me into her home and into her heart, invariably. And what an all-embracing place and space that was. For all of her 103-plus years, Aunt Mildred (“Mil”, “Millie”, “Mother” . . . ) was, in her heart, forever young. There are those for whom the expression is tossed around: “not a mean bone in her body.” Ah, this was Aunt Mildred. Truly. She lived through most of the 20th century and well into the 21st century, she did, but hers was a timeless soul, a timeless spirit. To walk into her presence was to feel the warmth of life, the touch of grace, of cheer and — of humor. Aunt Mildred was attentive, a good listener — always inquiring of the person by her side or on the other end of the line. It helped that she had the gift of a striking memory (Oh wish that we — in our tender plus-65 years — could say the same.). To you, Aunt Mildred, I say: “See ya, kiddo. I will never forget you, your voice — and your goodness. Love Joel
