Melvin “Mel” Hummel

Melvin “Mel” Burton Hummel, 93, beloved husband of the late Gloria Ann (Katcher) Hummel; loving father of Lionel Hummel (Linda Enger) and Steve Hummel (Lori Strauss); cherished Papa Mel of Sophie and Evan; devoted son of the late Beatrice and Charles Hummel; treasured friend of many. Mel was born in Chicago in 1926 and later graduated from Sullivan High. He was a proud WWII veteran, rising to sergeant in the Army Air Corps, and went on to earn his business degree from Roosevelt College. He was known to many in the Chicagoland furniture industry area for his remarkable 45-year career as a manufacturers representative. Chapel service Monday 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or in memory of Mel’s beloved Gloria to the American Cancer Society.
