Obituary

Marlene Dobrin, age 80, beloved wife of Bernard Dobrin, happily married for 59½ years; loving mother of Lisa and Jordan; dear sister of the late Thelma Karson and dear sister-in-law to Martin, Shel, and Marlene; treasured aunt to Sari, Matt, Jay, Ward, Stefanie, and Jon. Surrounded by her husband and children, Marlene passed at home on Sunday November 22, after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Marlene was born to Dave and Bess Kempner in Chicago. In 1961, Marlene married Bernie, and together they raised Lisa and Jordan in Chicago, moving to Stamford, CT in 1973. Marlene earned Bachelor degrees from Roosevelt University in Education and from SUNY Purchase in Fine Arts, which was her true passion. Marlene and Bernie moved to Arizona in 1998. She loved their 15 years of motorhome traveling adventures, exploring 49 states. No newly entered city was left without its intro narrative from Marlene, quoting from the Mobil Guide. She marveled at Arizona’s beautiful sunsets and was able to enjoy one last beautiful sunset display on the way home from the hospital the night before she passed. Marlene’s biggest legacy until her dying day was her devotion to tracing and recording her family genealogy, for which she comprised a network of over 1000 relatives, all the way back to the early 1600’s. Marlene was such a dynamic, creative, inspiring, and caring woman, who was always thinking of others first. We will miss her greatly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite Alzheimer’s charity, favorite Cancer charity, Pebble Creek Kare Bears(https://karebears.org/), and/or Hospice of the Valley(https://www.hov.org/). Because of Covid, it was Marlene’s request that there be no in-person attendees at the service.
