Sam was a wonderful friend to my father, John Madden. They met many years ago, through work. Dad spoke very fondly of Sam, and arranged to bring our kids to see Sam at the Botanic Garden.

We were so, so saddened to hear the news about Sam. He was a very special person. He always came into the dental office with his Northwestern finest! Tom always enjoyed sharing stories with Sam about the football team, the coaches, and the games. He always lit up the office with his wit and humor and made us feel so good.
Sam was the epitome of a good, caring man. What integrity and what love he had for his beautiful wife, Bobbie, and his family.
We will miss him dearly. We send our love to you, Bobbie.
May his memory be a blessing.
Love, Coralie and Tom Downey

We are so saddened to hear the news about Sam. We always looked forward to seeing him come to the dental office all dressed in his Northwestern best. Tom loved talking to him endlessly about the football team, the games, everything Northwestern.
Sam was such a kind, wonderful person. He lit up the office when he came. Bobbie, you and Sam hold a very special place in our hearts. We will miss him dearly.
May his memory be a blessing.
Love to you. Tom and Coralie

I wanted to let you know how deeply sorry I am to hear the passing of Sam. While I never met him, I am close friends with his son Andy. I’m sure if he was anything like Andy, he was a fine gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this celebration of his life. God Bless!

My heart is broken for all of you. I grew up seeing you guys in Palm Springs and remember Sam taking us hiking in Palm Springs. Sam was such a sweet man and I enjoyed the couple times I got to see you guys in the midwest when I was out there. I even stayed with you guys several times. Those memories I think back on and thank God that I had that time.
Hopefully I will have the chance to see you guys soon.
Love you guys,
Paulie

As a co-worker of Sam’s at The Model Railroad Garden in the Botanic Garden, I will miss him. To sum him up in one word—-Dependable. We could always count on him to set up the eastside trains every Sunday morning without fail.
Sam….Thanks for your help over your many years of service,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Bobbie and boys….we are heartbroken by the news of Sam’s passing. So many fond memories of shared experiences, Indian guides at the Y, mixed doubles, Palm Springs, Niagara on the Lake, annual birthday celebrations with friends, and theater going everywhere. A guy with a profound sense of integrity, and subtle wit, Sam will be sorely missed.
