Elaine L Grant

Elaine Lazar Grant passed away on August 18, 2022. Born on February 10. 1925, she was a long time resident of Chicago, Evanston, Highland Park, and most recently, Glenview, Illinois. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University. She spent twenty-five years on the faculty of Northwestern in the School of Speech, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the last thirteen years as an Associate Professor. Upon retirement she became a Professor Emeritus. Her tenure at Northwestern included being selected as the first female co-chair of the General Faculty Committee and, for a period, was an Associate Dean of the Graduate School. She was active and a fellow in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and a founding member of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She valued knowledge greatly and, post retirement, organized and took many classes through the Northwestern Alumnae Association.

She had been married to the late Daniel M. Brown, then the late Herman Grant. She is survived by her sister, Enid (the late Dr. Bernie) Block, sons, Robert H. (Ilene) Brown, David (Janet) Grant and daughter, Ilise (David) Schwartzwald. She also had eight grandchildren, Mitchell (Laura) Schwartzwald, and Karen Schwartzwald, Emily Yoni) Oinounou, Riegan Sage (Toby Scales) , Byron Brown, Megan Grant, Michael Grant, and Laura (Andy) Becker. They have produced ten great grandchildren to date. (all the lights of her life).

Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, 12 PM at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
