Obituary

Sandra Rae Cohen, born on January 16, 1937, in Chicago to Martha and Charles Joffrey, peacefully passed away on November 22, 2023 in Libertyville, IL. A gifted painter and pianist, Sandra attended the Art Institute of Chicago, where she cultivated her love for oil painting. Her artistic legacy lives on through the cherished paintings displayed in her children’s homes. At the music conservatory, she distinguished herself as a star pupil, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to the piano. Sandra passed on her musical passion, teaching many of her children and grandchildren the art of piano playing. Family was the cornerstone of Sandra’s life. As the matriarch, she fostered strong family bonds through regular family visits and created lasting memories. Sandra’s dedication extended to caring for her mother until her passing, reflecting her profound sense of love and responsibility. She is survived by her devoted husband Joe, her five children, Debbie (Paul) Lindon, Ronald (Ruth) Cohen, Richard, Karen (Jack) Spesard and Lisa (Lawrence) Kolaczkowski, fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Sandra’s impact reached beyond her large family. Her legacy is evident in the lives of the many piano students she taught, where she inspired in them not only a love for music, but for them to always be the best they could be. Sandra found joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing her love for drawing, the piano and reading with them. Known for hosting memorable celebrations, Sandra was the heart of family gatherings, hosting many holiday celebrations. She maintained a youthful, elegant spirit through a healthy lifestyle, prioritizing a healthy diet and exercise, and showcased her excellent taste through a unique style and love for shopping. A celebration of Sandra Rae Cohen’s life will take place on Friday, November 24, 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
