Obituary

Melvin Cohen, 97, beloved husband of the late Eileen for 64 wonderful years; loving father of Joseph (Miriam), Deborah, Robin (Peter Kwiek), and Rebecca Cohen; grandfather of David and Andrew; dear brother of long departed Rose and Helen. Melvin Cohen, storyteller extraordinaire, World War II Veteran trained in the horse calvary, served in the Philippines & the initial occupying forces in Japan. After the war, he attended the U of I on the Gl Bill and pursued a career in public accounting, culminating in the founding his own public accounting firm. His sharp, analytic mind, encyclopedic memory and glib realism made him an engaging, and formidable, conversationalist . A die-hard Cub fan, we are grateful he lived to see them become World Series Champions. He was generous with resources, opportunities and love. We are truly bereft to have lost our head of table who would hold forth at family gatherings and captivate us with tales of his many life adventures. Chapel service 2:30 PM July 13, 2023, at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
