Irving Abramson, dearest father of Fran Abramson, Jan (Paul) Stepanczuk and Lee (Meryl) Abramson, passed away 5/16/23 at the age of 97. He was married for 72 years to his beloved wife, Doris, until her death in 2020. He was a devoted grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 6. He is predeceased by his parents, Louis Abramson and Mollie Kushnir Abramson, and his sister, Annette Abramson. Born in Chicago, Irv graduated from Lane Tech High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the army. He fought and was injured in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for his service. When Irv returned to Chicago, he met and married Doris. He then went into the family business, Friedman Auto Parts, building it into a thriving business. In his spare time he used his creativity and talents when he wrote and directed plays for various groups. Doris and Irv travelled the world in their retirement and enjoyed life together and with their many friends. Irv had a strong commitment to his community, being involved in many volunteer activities and boards. He was also very involved in fundraising for Honor Flight Chicago and spoke about his experiences in the service at many events and schools. He will be missed by many people. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Honor Flight Chicago, Graveside service, Sunday 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Park,1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
