Leon Friedman, 94, born June 5, 1929, son of the late Benjamin and Sadie (nee Lieberman) Friedman; high school sweetheart and husband of 74 years to the late Sylvia (nee Carter) Friedman; loving father of Shelli (Barry) Barnett and Bonnie (Scott) Gold; wonderful Grandpa of Samantha (Tim) Steed, Randi (Nathan) Eisenberg, Matthew and Adam Gold; adored great grandpa of Drew and Avery Eisenberg, Elle and Jay Steed; dear brother of the late Nathan Friedman, Sophie Gore Pomaranc and Helen Abman. Leon’s greatest passion beside his family was his contribution as captain of the state champion Marshall HS 1947 basketball team. His M Club and Greater Vest Side Club affiliations were a great source of pride. Uncle Leon was my mom’s “little” brother whom she adored. As a result (and because of his gentle ways and who he was) I loved him as well. Like his father, Zaydie Friedman, he was a quiet but engaging person who always listened and was interested in what you were saying. He managed a large shoe store for some time and I would go there with my friends and proudly introduce my uncle who would graciously spend time with us even though he was so busy. I will miss my sweet uncle but am comforted by the knowledge that he is with his wife, my parents, his parents and many friends probably captaining a basketball team of angels.
