Laurence Cohn

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Cohn family. I was stunned when I read of Lorry’s passing, and sad that I didn’t get a chance to have a good long 1:1 chat with him this summer. I didn’t work directly with Lorry at RU since I teach and advise undergrads, but he was a stalwart member of our local AAUP chapter leadership team and from my interactions with him in that context it was obvious he was a great Human Being in all respects. Professional, warm, funny, ultra dependable, wise, compassionate, and intelligent.

As a guitar player myself, I was heartened to know that Lorry could really pick it. Oh, how I wish I had brought my guitar out to the Schaumburg Campus and had a nice jam session with him in the courtyard! Still, it warms my heart to know that his memorial service featured music start to finish.

Lorry will be greatly missed by the RU community.

I am so sorry to hear Lorry is gone. I had the pleasure of working with him at Roosevelt in Admission and at the Schaumburg campus, he was a colleague and friend for the last six years. Lorry was charismatic and kind. He was a great conversationalist, so engaging, warm, and genuine. I enjoyed hearing about his guitar lessons and jam sessions with friends, and his love for his wife and family was apparent in every chat. He will be greatly missed.

Although Lorry and I didn’t work in the same department until a few years ago, I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with him since he first began working at Roosevelt University. I will always remember Lorry’s warmth, sense of humor, calming demeanor and helpful spirit. Lorry was a classy gentleman with an ever present, genuine smile. I will miss Lorry and his intelligent banter a lot! My sincere prayers and condolences to his loving family and friends.

Lorry was my next-door office neighbor at Roosevelt University. Great guy. Amazing conversationalist. Dedicated worker. Student advocate. The list goes on. He always looked out for others and was the “glue” holding our graduate admissions office together. We all enjoyed working with him and learning from him as well. I’ll never forget how he’d always bring his wife’s chex mix to the office. Everyone in the office got a bag. Just one of many ways we experienced his generosity. While it’s sad that he’s gone, I know he’s watching all of us and continuing to look after us, just like he always has. Despite the short time I knew him, it was an honor to know him.

Lorry was an amazing person and colleague. We served together on the Roosevelt University chapter of the American Association of University Professor’s (AAUP) Leadership Team for many years. Lorry was always focused on making things as good as they could be at our workplace. He was positive, collegial, energetic, dependable, resourceful, creative, affirming of others, and a joy to be around. I am very thankful to have known Lorry and I already miss him so much. I know that I will continue to miss him terribly. In response, I am committed to living my life thankful for the blessing of knowing him and continuing to live in ways that he modeled for me. He always affirmed me and other colleagues in ways that left me inspired to continue to do my very best alongside others who were doing the same, as Lorry always did. May his memory be a blessing to all of us who knew him.

I was so loved by Mr Cohn… And always was treated with such kindness and open door whenever I can come over and spend time with my second family…the cohns…Lorry always made sure if I was over during dinner, I was invited to dinner..and Jenny would either cook amazing meals or we would order a pizza on Friday night…either way I was always spoiled like a third son. And I feel like the third son all my life since 2nd grade….I am so sad for Mr. Cohns passing , and to the families and freinds. But my memories of growing up and hanging out at the house was some of my favorite memories of all time..I am so blessed to know this family and I love Mr.Cohn with every thing from all my heart and soul.. memory eternal ..
