Obituary

Maurice Gross, proudly part of the greatest generation and a World War II veteran, has passed away at the age of 97. He grew up in Gary, Indiana, the youngest child of immigrants, first living above the family grocery store. His life was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving in India and Burma during WWII, receiving a Bronze Star. In 1948 he married his hometown and college sweetheart, Sally Oslan, who was his supportive companion and mother to his three children. His career spanned nearly 50 years, initially in the women’s wear retail business and then achieving great success in the equipment leasing business during a 23-year partnership with his oldest son, Randy, and for a few years his younger son, Jeffrey. His daughter Karen was his constant connection to the caring and inclusive nature of his late wife. He was a giving man, routinely stopping by the homeless and less fortunate, always conversing and reaching into his pocket to provide some additional dollars. He was philanthropic, his name inscribed on the major donor wall of a premier hospital and medical center, as well as being recognized by several charitable organizations. He was always engaging, interested and sensitive to the well-being of others. Maurie remarried at the age of 54 to his second wife, Beverly, who along with her family survives him. He is also survived by his son Randy (Beth) Gross; his daughter Karen (Les) Ottenheimer; his grandchildren; Scott (Jenna) Ottenheimer, Alex (Alexandra) Ottenheimer, Adam (Caitlyn) Ottenheimer, Jordan (Jordyn) Gross, and Aliza Gross; his four great-grandchildren and his niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally, their son Jeffrey, his brother Albert, and sister Sylvia. Graveside Services at Shalom Memorial Park, Arlington Heights, IL, Sunday July 9 at noon.
