We are so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was truly a fixture in the International Visitors Tent at AirVenture, oftentimes deep in conversation with guests from all over the world.. Regardless of where the guest was from, if Mike could strike up a conversation, they would pull up a chair and chat for long periods of time. Mike found humor in a lot of various things and we’ll miss his laugh. We will surely miss him and send our deepest condolences to Robin and his family.

Uncle Michael was an adventure to know – an endless font of loving advice, funny stories, and incredibly interesting tidbits of history. There’s no one memory I would want to share, so much as how much fun he and I had, sharing family and good times. I’ll always value our one on one conversations, too – he will always be one of my favorite human beings, ever. I love you, Uncle Michael.

Much as Gabe shared during the service, I envision Michael as busy enlivening gatherings with a particular mix of jokes, inquiry and debate. Watching Michael talk to my dad (his cousin), I always felt happily amused to observe that question asking, definition demanding and general discussion-as-sport indeed appear to be somewhat hereditary properties of the Cember family — whether by nature or by nurture will never be entirely clear. While nature might have something to do with it, nurture clearly has an important role, as Michael, Robin, and all of their descendants are amongst the nicest and most interesting crews of people around, and I am proud that they are all my family. Michael, you will be missed, but are hopefully having a good time meanwhile. Love, Abby
