My son and Keegan became good friends a couple of summers ago through camp. Maureen was always so kind to both of us and a pleasure to chat with. It was clear how much she loved Keegan and had a passion for life. My sincerest condolences to Paul & Keegan.

Paul,
I will never forget the kindness of Maureen! I would oftentimes run into her on my walks with Loki, at Whole Foods, or as she was leaving to go somewhere. I always felt such joy when talking with Maureen!
I won’t ever forget when Eli was born, she sent us an outfit. I will now forever cherish this!
May her memory be a blessing,
-Anne Marion

Maureen was a loyal and dear member of our book group, which has met for many years. There is an empty chair now.
Maureen was always unabashed in sharing her view of a book, up or down, and often added a different slant I had never considered. From all I heard at her funeral today, this was vintage “Moe.” During our meetings, there was always time for personal comments – concerning our lives, travels, children, or community and political events and issues. Moe was always lively, thoughtful, and “in the mix.” I now wish I had known Moe in other contexts, but I feel blessed to have shared the joy of reading with her all these years. I will think of Moe during our meetings and miss her funny hats and interesting snacks. Rest in Peace, pedal off to heaven, and may your memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved you, Moe!

Maureen was the kindest, most giving person and I was honored to run for DPS 109 school board alongside her, vote for her, and enjoy so much time getting to know her through our new board member orientations. She represented the very best qualities of a dedicated community member and loving wife and mother. At each board meeting, no matter what the circumstances, she would find me and ask me how I was doing – her genuine compassion for others was unmatched. She cared deeply for the students in the district, always advocated for those that needed a voice, and served as a guidepost when it came to state and national legislation impacting schools and communities. I will sincerely miss her and all the good that she brought into the lives of those around her.

Moe was a force in this world. She was a fierce advocate of change and a friend to almost everyone. Her passion for legislative action will be missed. Her demeanor was a rarity and was always much appreciated. Above all, she was a decent human being and will never be forgotten. May her memory be for a blessing to all of us.

Keegan, my heart breaks for you and your family’s loss. Your mother was always so kind whenever Ronald came to your house for a visit. I have only fond memories of my conversations with her. She was a good listener, a generous person, and had a heart full of love for you. May her memory be a blessing.

Our hearts are broken at Maureen’s tragic passing. As a co-Board member on the Deerfield Public School District 109 Board, Maureen was a valued member with a loving heart and sensitivity to the needs of all children.
Just last month, I wrote of her: “To Maureen Wener, I am sure that I am not the first one to say to you that big things come in small packages. You have excellent questions and the courage to ask them, reading in detail line-by-line of every report. You have an especial sensitivity to those with special needs, and take care to understand the larger context of things, including important legislation affecting the District. The District is lucky to have you.”
My wife, Laura, and I extend our deepest condolences to Paul and Keegan, and Maureen’s entire family, on your loss. She will be missed.

Maureen was a regular at our spa. Loyal to a fault! Amazing person. I remember the first time I met her. She road her bike to the front door with her helmet on. When she unstrapped her helmet and came in, i thought she was 19 years old. Couldn’t believe she was even 30 let alone in her 40’s. We had great conversations and she was always so helpful in any questions i had. So down to earth. No polish, just cut and shape. Will miss her and the great conversations. RIP Maureen. My condolences to her family and friends.

This is not the way I would have liked to reconnect and I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember Maureen and Tammy playing with my son, Andrew, when we all lived in Deerfield. I’m so impressed with all that Maureen seemed to accomplish in her life.

Maureen helped me with getting the paperwork done properly when I was Treasurer of David Bonner’s campaign. She was a good friend that I will sorely miss. Always there to answer my questions. Always there to help.

Maureen was always a friend and dedicated public servant to all in the Deerfield community. I had the pleasure of being on the Library Board with Maureen for several years. She always showed her love and care of the Deerfield community, whether it was supporting the MakerSpace, helping the library manage through the covid crisis, getting feedback from patrons at the farmer’s market and elsewhere, or walking in the Independence Day Parade.
Just last Friday, Maureen handed out diplomas to the 8th grade Caruso kids, including to my son, Noah. Maureen mentioned how thrilled she was to give him the diploma and that she remembered how small he was not so long ago when we were both new to the Library Board.
Maureen always had a warm presence and will be sorely missed. My family and I send our deepest sympathies to Maureen’s family and friends. May her memory always be a blessing.

I met Maureen when Keegan and my daughter, Emma, were in preschool at BJBE. She was smart, funny and so kind. We attended moms dinners together as well as all of the events at the preschool. While we didn’t stay in each others day to day lives after preschool, I often think about Maureen and how she was one of my favorite people from that time in my life. She was a wonderful, giving, generous person. She will remain an inspiration to me. She will truly be missed.

I didn’t know Maureen long enough, but we shared some special memories together last summer while she was in Utah visiting Keegan. Recently, we took a walk around HP and caught up while I was in town visiting family. She was so kind and thoughtful, wanting to hear all about me and my nee home. Before we said goodbye— lust under 2 weeks ago— she gave me a housewarming gift. It was so great to see her and catch up, but too soon to say goodbye. Here is a photo of us from one of our hikes in Utah.
