Obituary

Jean Merzon, 86, beloved wife of Melvin for 41 wonderful years, passed away on July 21, 2023. Jean was the beloved daughter of Hylan Bard Stoller and Shirle Art Stoller and the beloved wife of the late Donald Simmons. She is survived by her cherished daughter Karyn Simmons and loving son Rick Simmons (Jody Simmons), by stepchildren Jeremy Merzon (Denise Merzon), Jocelyn Merzon, and Jonathan Merzon (Wayne Galbraith). Jean will be dearly missed by her brother Jack Stoller (Sandy Stoller) and her sisters Barbara Woodman (Alan Woodman) and Pam Davis (Richard Rukin), and her step-mother Lillian Stoller. Jean survived her brother Jason Stoller (Whitney Stoller). Jean was the adored grandmother of Dana Simmons (Ben Marcus), Marissa Simmons (Ryan Lichtig), Erik Merzon, and Evan Merzon. Jean was a strong and loving woman. She was a passionate learning disabilities and gifted math teacher for over 35 years, sang with the Northwest Choral Society for 40 years, and was an avid gardener, bicyclist, and gourmet cook. Jean and Mel shared their love of travel and adventure together throughout their marriage. Jean was loved by all who knew her. Chapel service 10 AM Sunday, July 23 at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
