Stuart Arnold Marder

I stumbled across Stuart’s obituary after going through some old work emails and Googling names of former Harper people with whom I used to work. Stuart was a great colleague of mine in the former Department of Academic Success at Harper College. He was a joy to work with, and always had a smile and a joke when he passed by my office. (I used to tell him that he reminded me of a young Elliot Gould.)

I am in a state of shock to accidentally come across this news just now. Stuart was a good soul with a good heart, a man of many talents. He loved his family more than anything. I was privileged to get to know him well.

My sincere condolences to the entire family. Stuart will very much be missed, as I know that he was loved by you all.

I remember joining as a guest at the Marder’s Passover and Hanukkah celebrations as a kid. I felt a little out of place because I couldn’t understand the words, but Stu was so kind in providing English translations for those of us who don’t know Hebrew., and taking the time to explain it to us. I also remember the sleep-overs I used to have with Julie and David- the house was so welcoming and fun – the air hockey table in the basement was the best! Uncle Stu was a kind, gentle man, He will be deeply missed. Rest in Peace.

My heart is heavy with sadness for the loss of a great man and to me a loving uncle. It is hard to believe we will never see him again.

Uncle Stu was always a kind, curious, and fun uncle. When I was young, I remember Barbie filled sleepovers at the Marder house and racing the Like Tikes Cozy Coupe lol around the previously unfinished basement. We celebrated Passover and Hanukkah with hidden treasures and dreidels, Uncle Stu always leading the events. As we grew, he was always interested in what the latest was going on with us. Stu was a guy that was filled with knowledge and love, which radiated the most for his family and friends who were like family.

Marders, I am sorry I am not with you there in mourning right now. You are in our thoughts and our hearts. We love you.

My husband Barry (of blessed memory) and I always enjoyed getting together with Stuart, Maxine and family. Barry and Stuart would sometimes play their guitars and sing folk songs. I went to high school with Stuart and will always vividly remember his smiling face and

He was a kind and beautiful man. Whenever I would ask if Dave could hang out he was usually grounded but he let us play anyway : )

I’ll always remember the emotion on his face when he met our first born daughter Hannah. We were at 711 Nichols and the hallway had about a 2 inch drop into the living room and Hannah who was not even 1 years old at the time would jump from the hallway onto the living room floor. Stuart was laughing and happy watching her jump and play.

He will be missed. Rest Easy : )

Stuart was one of the most selfless people I have known. For nearly 50 years he has been a close friend and more like a brother than a brother in -law. He was loved and will be missed by all of us who were close to him.
Hopefully Stuart will rest peacefully.
