Obituary

Irwin B. ‘Bif’ Fieldman, 95, of Grayslake, was married for nearly 63 years to the late Idell, nee Arenson; Together, they had three children, Laurie (Denise), Chuck, and the late Marcie, along with three grandchildren, Jerry, Mikey and Kate. Bif is the son of the late Theodore and Marian, nee Tadman, brother of the late Gerald (the late Charlene) and uncle to many nieces and nephews, including niece, Susan (Fieldman) Wagner, to whom he was like a second father. Bif grew up in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Senn High School. He served in the United States Navy as a flight engineer, both in World War II and the Korean War. Bif then attended college at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and became a civil engineer. It was in that field that he was in-charge of many construction projects, including the development of shopping malls, retail stores and office buildings. Bif returned to college in his 50s to earn a Master’s degree so that he could pursue one of his passions – teaching. He became an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College, Roosevelt University and National Louis University. Bif left a big mark in Skokie, the village in which he and his wife raised their family and lived for more than 40 years. It was in Skokie that Bif became a legendary Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football coach. He left a long-lasting impression on many of the youth he coached over the years, including some who made it a point to keep in-touch with him 50-plus years after they had played on teams he coached.
