Obituary
Martin was a devoted pediatrician and allergist for over 50 years. He had many professional accomplishments, including Department Chairman of Pediatrics at Highland Park Hospital, President of the Illinois Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and numerous awards and publications; but the accomplishment of which he was most proud was his family. He was a lifelong learner who could always be found buried in a book about history, politics, technology, or Judaism. He was a strong supporter of Israel, where he traveled many times.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jewish United Fund or the Jewish charity of your choice. Private funeral, Tuesday, 10 AM. Please attend via LiveStream. For information, including a link to view the service or to leave condolences: Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, www.shalommemorial.org or (847) 255-3520.

Dr Kaplan took care of our son Dan since the day he was born. He was actually the first patient when the office opened on Park Ave
“Treat Dan normal” was Dr Kaplan’s motto “and let me worry about his care.” At 48 years old, Dan doesn’t remember the many emergency visits to the office or Highland Park Hospital. Dr Kaplan saved our son’s life and will always remain our hero.
May his memory be for a blessing

Loved the comments during the service. In that uniquely “Kaplan-esque” way, there was so much love and wisdom hiding just behind the humor. We hope you’ll find comfort in the deep respect and love so clearly voiced by all the speakers, and by Cantor Howard. Love, the Berksons

We have such fond memories of our upbeat and humorous cousin Marty at simchas. The Talmud tells us of two individuals who merited their place in the World to Come because they made people laugh and happy.
Our deepest condolences to the entire Kaplan family.
May Hashem comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
May the memory of cousins Marty, Leiby, Malka and Asna be an inspiration for the entire family to continue their legacy.

I was blessed to have known Uncle Marty. I remember spending time in his backyard/pool and his doctor’s office as a child . He was an inspiration to my chosen life and career. I will remember him always.

What a life, well lived. Happy to have been part of a 65 year Kaplan-Strauss friendship. As it’s said…he was one of a kind. Sending our love to all.

It meant the world to me that Marty and Judy attended our son’s bar mitzvah, because I knew how difficult traveling by air had become for both of them.
