David’s dedication to law inspired us. He not only served as our attorney, we considered him a friend. His expertise and kindness touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of integrity and compassion. As we remember David, we cherish the moments shared and the wisdom imparted. His presence will be deeply missed but his impact will resonate for generations to come.
Rest peacefully, David.

David was my fraternity brother, my friend and for a short time my employer. I met him in 1969 and ever since then he has always been ready to assist me in any way possible. I will miss him greatly.

Dave was a good guy and a valued member of our Iota Chi Fraternity at UIC. If I remember correctly (and that’s a stretch these days), he was always ambitious and back in those days, was able to land a job at either Wrigley Field or Soldier Field selling hot dogs or some other food item where, for a young guy, he made a very nice buck. It is nice to know that he moved on from selling hot dogs to become a successful attorney, beloved family man and friend to many.
My sincere condolences to his wife, Sharon, and his entire family.

David was like no other. He was like a second dad to me when I first graduated from college. I truly felt like a part of your family from my first day on the job and it continued even for the next 27 years since I left. I’m listening right now to Jacob and I’m laughing – I share so many of your memories – and have my own. Watching his epic love for you 2 kids, and then watching it all over again with the grandkids. Late night meals at work after pulling an all-nighter. Blasting the Doors. Corned Beef sandwiches. Freezing up high in the stands at Wrigley field. Swimming in your pool. His booming voice. Taking turns playing Tetris. Going with him to car shows at the Rock and Roll McDonald’s to show off his Mustang. Frozen Girl Scout cookies. Frozen Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Sipping Bailey’s at the end of the day on April 15th. Then eating ribs. He talked forever about watching me inhale a full slab of ribs for the first time (after I insisted I just couldn’t).
Jenny, Jacob and Sharon – thank you for including me in so many of your memories. I treasure them always.
David, I’ll miss you like crazy-cakes.

Dear Sharon, Jacob, Haley, Jenny , Kevin and family,
We send our deepest sympathies to you All.
I have known Dave for about 28 years beginning when my husband, son and I moved in next door to him and Sharon. We could not have asked for a more friendly guy for a neighbor. Over the years, there were many invitations of “bring Michael and his friends over to swim” ; and offers of “let me know if I can help you trim the bushes or trees.” Dave had such a vast knowledge of all things mechanical and garden-like. I remember last year when he came over to help install a new car battery. And we always had expert legal advice, and lawn advice and tree care and weed advice.
During the Polar Votex when our electricity died, Dave ran an extension cord from his house to ours to plug in our freezer and save all our frozen food!!! In March of 2024 when we had a disaster of burst pipes, Dave came over to help us with some major clean up in the back yard. He was always matter of fact; just here to pitch in and help — never expecting anything in return. He was like that— just a really really nice person; a really good guy.
For his generosity and friendship, we will be forever grateful and will always remember him with a smile.

I have known David Stein since I dated Mark Robbins. David was so concerned that my X-husband was not a nice person. He went out of his way to help me get more support and to put limits on what my X-husband could do. He was a great friend. When I started dating Keith, he made sure he was a good guy. I cannot say enough good things about David. I will miss him. It is so sad that he died. It is a shock to us, and I hurt for his family. Linda
