Eva was wonderful in giving my husband (Craig) and me a private tour of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in 2011. It was especially memorable because we listened to some of Walter’s recordings about his escape from the Germans . My father escaped with Walter and I was amazed to find a picture of my father that I had never seen before in the recording. This picture is also on the Museum’s website about Walter and the beautiful menorah he created.
I have stayed in touched with Eva over the years (starting in 2004) through annual holiday greeting cards and found out about her passing just today when my card to her came back as non-deliverable. A quick search found her obituary. I would be very interested in getting in touch with any of Eva’s children (or grandchildren) as my parents, Frank and Irene (van Leeuwen) LeVita, were very close friends with Eva and Walter through the years.

I have fond memories of Eva (Mrs. Thalheimer) when we all lived in Arlington Hts and she was a proud Oma. Fast forward many years later when my folks and I toured The Holocaust Museum. She recognized me right when I walked in and she personally gave us the tour including the beautiful artwork of her late husband. It was all so touching. She was so lovely and gracious and I will never forget it. I’m so sorry Ron. Losing your mom is so tough. You are blessed with so many wonderful memories and may they always give you peace. Charlie and I send our condolences to your entire family. You are in our thoughts.

My wife Joan and I were very fond of Eva. She was one of the few people who knew all four of our parents. We would see her at B’nai Tikvah services and always have a pleasant chat. She was very proud of her family and would tell us stories from her past. She was one of our last links to our parents and we will miss her.

I have warm memories of Eva, and I miss our talks on Shabbat. Eva was an amazing lady who lived a full life. I am sending prayers to the family during your time of mourning.
