Obituary
After leaving school, he moved to Anchorage Alaska where he lived from 1988 until he moved back to the Chicago area in 2011. While in Anchorage, Scott was heavily involved in philanthropy and politics. Scott was one of the national organizers of the 1993 march on Washington. Scott also enjoyed spending time and working with the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts where he both acted and worked in the staging of numerous productions.
Another one of Scott’s loves was leadership and participation in the International Imperial Court System established in 1965. It has 65 chapters across the US, Canada and Mexico and is the 2nd largest LGBT organization in the world. Scott was coronated as the 31st Emperor of the Imperial Court of All Alaska and was the 8th and 13th Emperor of the Imperial Windy City Court of the Prairie State Empire. As such, like royal families all over the world, there are numerous members of the community recognized as his sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Scott also received the title of International Mr. Bear in 2008.
The gatherings and events he organized and participated in were all charitable events with the intention of supporting unhoused youth, food banks, senior centers, and many other community organizations. In addition, he mentored many young members of the LGBT community.
In 2011, Scott was joyfully united with his older half-brother, Robert (Bob) Nissim who had previously been given up for adoption by their mother Linda in 1959. Scott is survived by Bob Nissim, his wife Candi, their 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in addition to countless chosen family members.

I am so sorry to have missed you service today…..you know me always on the move…..in St. Louis working a show. Something I know you understand and have had experiences in. Funny that the theme of tonight’s reception for my corporate client is 80s night….I know you would be loving it, and I an only think that your looking in on my over my shoulder and saying nice job. I will miss the random meets on the Broadway bus that happened more often than not, and will hope that your memory is a blessing to all that knew you as it will be for me. I have great sadness that your no longer with us, Thanks for all your community and selfless commitment to the community.

I was young and new to the corporate world (property management) and Scott took me under his wing. He called me his diamond in the rough and although it took him a while, he made sure I was polished and ready to progress. Because we worked together we got very close and we became what everybody called work husband and wife. I called him my Ike and he called me his Tina. Scott was a true friend and a genuinely caring person. He knew the things I was going through and he always offered a helping hand. From purchasing diapers and etc for my daughter when she was a baby to just being a listening ear when I needed. I will always love my Ike for that. I hate that we didn’t get to go on our lunch date. Rest in peace my friend.

The moment we met, I knew I adored you and we would be friends. You ended up being one of my best friends, always there when I needed you, even when I didn’t realize I did. I love and miss you, wookie.

I didn’t know you as long as some.
But in the few short years we knew each other, you helped mold me into the man that I am now.
I’ll miss you. Rest in Power, my friend, mentor, half-emperor, and dad.

I first met Scott in late 2021 when I was about to move into the condo building. He was very helpful and always kind and helpful. I was sorry to see him leave since I was a new resident and renter. I have missed him and was devastated to learn of his passing. RIP Scott!
