Obituary

Michael Loren Sandler, 85, beloved husband of Becky nee Spoor for 42 years; loving father of Robert (the late Dee) McDougall, Heidi Sandler, and Phil Sandler (Maggie Jurgens); cherished Papa of Katie (Jason) Whitley, Joelle (Tom) Fowler, and Jensen, Madison, and Matthew McDougall; adored great Papa of Benjamin and Theodore Whitley; devoted son of the late Jean and Phillip Sandler; dear brother of the late Rhoda Zdeblick (the late Homer Glasser and the late Bob Zdeblick); caring brother-in-law of Tom (Marsha) Spoor, Roberta (the late Punky) Beauchamp, and the late Tony (the late Mary) Spoor; treasured uncle, cousin, and friend of many.

Mike will be remembered for his sharp wit, big heart, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for Las Vegas, especially when it came to betting on the horses, and he rarely missed a chance to watch a game. A devoted Chicago sports fan, Mike proudly cheered for his favorites-the Bears and the White Sox-and made sure everyone around him knew where his loyalties stood. Mike had a unique way of connecting with people, often by giving them the “third degree,” usually with a grin that let you know it was all in good fun. His sense of humor and easygoing nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Though he may not have always said it out loud, Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family. They were the center of his world, and his love for them was constant and unwavering.

True to who he was, Mike preferred a casual style. In his honor, family invites everyone to feel free to dress casually or wear their favorite sports apparel.

Mike will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
