Obituary
Monica later built her life in the United States, where she worked for many years at the National Livestock and Meat Board in Chicago before retiring. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who centered her life around her family.
Monica was married for 43 years to her beloved husband, Bernard “Bob” Shetsky, who passed away in 1999. Together, they raised five children, who were the heart of their world: Carmen Elleston, David (Marsha) Shetsky, Michael (Christi) Shetsky, Steven (April) Shetsky, Jennifer (Rob) Bahna.
Monica will also be lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in her life.
Monica’s warmth and creativity touched everyone around her. She had a passion for arts and crafts, and her hands were always busy creating beautiful things. She loved to cook for her family, filling her home with the delicious smells of her famous cookies and toffee. Her kitchen was a place where memories were made, and she took pride in bringing people together over meals and sweet treats.
Services will be held to honor Monica’s life and memory on Friday, May 30th, 2025. CrossView Church, 750 Highview Drive, Antioch, IL 60002. (847) 395-4117

I was about 5, when she had some chicken claws and scared me like crazy with them walking down the stairs at our apartment in Chicago. We lived next door. I also have ponchos she made my sister and myself when I was 16. I’m now 62. She was always a sweet lady and a good, close friend to my parents. Love and miss you. You are now with Bob. Rejoice.

I met Monica many years ago when she became a member of my Bible Study class. I was her leader for several years and always enjoyed her smile and her infectious joyful outlook on life.
She was very creative and I was often given a piece of her handiwork.
I am grateful that she is no longer suffering and is in heaven with her LORD and Savior.

Monica always made her chocolate chip cookies when I went to visit her in her Antioch apartment. I was impressed with the gorgeous food pictures in the cookbooks she worked on, and amazed at all the beautiful crafts she made! She even made me one of her ingenious expanding photo albums with picture from the retreat I had organized for our lady friends at church:) She was always ready with a hug and a smile. I regret we didn’t visit her more often after she moved:( I can’t imagine how much you, her family, will miss her…
