Obituary
She attended Dartmouth College, majoring in Art History, and received an A.B. degree in 1977. Upon graduation she began a lifelong career in advertising and marketing, working at Leo Burnett USA as a media buyer and account executive until 1990. She then opened her own marketing consulting business. Her clients ranged from Fortune 500 companies to public libraries. She served on the Highland Park Library Board for many years, including a term as its President.
In 1980 she married another Dartmouth alumnus, attorney William G. Schur, also known as “Bill.” The couple lived in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago for six years before moving to Highland Park in 1986. There, she and her husband raised two sons, Robert (Rebecca) and Daniel, both of whom survive her, along with her husband Bill. She is also survived by her grandson, Eli Benjamin Schur, son of Robert and Rebecca.
Donna was active in the Illinois Library Association, and was a frequent speaker at its conferences and contributor to its journal. She also was a member of Rotary International and Sisterhood at North Shore Congregation Israel, and a past President of the Dartmouth Club of Chicago.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Friends of the Highland Park Library, hplibrary.org/friends-5330 or the Illinois Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org/illinois.

Donna and I were cousins. Both of us were only children growing up in a small community in the Hudson Valley. I am nine years older which was significant when we were children, but as young adults we grew closer, the bond between us becoming stronger and stronger over the years despite no longer living near each other. I cherish my memories of visits together which became more frequent when Danny attended the University of British Columbia. We truly were like sisters and I shall miss her profoundly. Rest in peace dear cousin. With much love, Ruthie

Memories of Donna Fletcher Schur
My memories of Donna stem from my friendship with her husband Bill, a dear friend from my Dartmouth class. At Dartmouth, I remember Donna was a friendly, vivacious student, eager to be involved in clubs and on-campus activities, as well as her course work. After Dartmouth, Donna worked in a key consulting role for one of the leading marketing firms in the country. In addition, she served as President of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Chicago. Despite her busy work life, Donna maintained a lovely home in Highland Park, Illinois, raised two sons and was a steady partner of her husband.
The last time I saw Donna was many years ago at a dinner with Bill in downtown Chicago. I wasn’t sure that she recognized me, but despite serious health setbacks, Donna exuded the same smile that I remembered from my Dartmouth days.
I will miss her smile and her warmth.

Dear Bill, We have so many memories of the NSCI Young Couples Club events in the 1980s where we met you and Donna. Our hearts are saddened to learn of Donna’s passing. She was bright and very talented in marketing. We send you, Robert and Danny our deepest condolences.

While I never met Donna, her husband Bill is a dear friend of mine through the our mutual devotion to the game of ice hockey. Being the mother in a household managing 3 “hockey nuts” (husband Bill & sons Robert & Daniel) takes a special woman. I say this with knowledge how my own mother married a professional hockey player & raised 2 sons of some hockey acclaim. God has surely blessed the life of Donna Schur and all that she touched with her grace.
