I worked with Merle at Loyola,. I would cover her shift on weekends and she was always available to provide me with any type of advice I might need to do this job. Merle also worked on Loyola’s burn unit and ER simultaneously. Her dedication to her patients was incredible. I recall a case she had worked with a child who was burned because of a drug situation at his home. With Merle’s guidance and support he gave the police information to help remove a drug dealer from the project where he lived. Merle went out of her way to get this child to attend burn camp, including having the firefighters at his locale station pick him up. She was a great friend, mentor and one of the smartest social worker I had ever met. I still have some of the outfits I purchased from her Scottish Clothing business. They are timeless pieces. Merle was passionate about every thing that she did and always was successful. Dan, I know how proud she was of your success in Baltimore. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Whenever I remember my Aunt Merle I will always remember her for her incredible wit and humor. Even when my brothers and I were very young, visiting her and Great Grandma Mil, she was so hilarious and doting. She had such a dry sense of humor and sarcasm and a knowing glare/smirk that made me super comfortable around her. Her stories were always wildly entertaining and she truly embodied a strong, independent Jewish woman. She was an amazing person and I will miss her.

My sincerest condolences to you and Ted. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see your mom in most recent years. I loved her very much. She was so warm and such caring person and welcomed me into your family with open arms. She had a great sense of humor., laugh and style. I will always remember how much she loved to cook and entertain and how much pleasure and joy she took in doing for others. She will always hold a special place in my heart.
Sending you lots of love & hugs during this difficult time.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Merle. My memories are of Dan and him being a beautiful, intelligent and caring person. These are qualities I know he recieved from his mother. She raised a great son. God Bless.
