Dear Family,
This isn’t a memory, but just a thought that might help bring support.
I was watching this funeral service listening to all the wonderful things said about Regina when a thought occurred to me. Cha’zal tell us that Hashem works with units of completion for the righteous. This is usually interpreted to mean that a righteous person will pass on the same day as their birthday. The most common examples given are Moses and King David. Regina was born August 30th 1925. This means that her Hebrew birthday was either on the 10th of Elul (if born before sunset) or the 11th of Elul (if born after sunset). Let’s also note that the day she was born on was a Sunday. Regina passed away on a Saturday, on Shabbos. The Hebrew date is very very close to her Hebrew birthday, only off by a couple days. She passed on the 13th of Elul. Regina was a righteous person as we heard in this funeral. Her life consisted of units of completion on an even higher level than birthday. Had she passed on her actual birthday she wouldn’t have had all the benefits that the soul gets when one passes on Shabbos. Her years were complete, having been born on a Sunday and passing on a Saturday, the closest Saturday to her birthday means 100 years of 52 complete weeks.

Dear Donna, S o very sorry for your loss. Jean and Mort were neighbors and good friends. Mort hired my late husband right after he graduated and Jerry hired Mort in later years when he had his own company. Jean an d I remained friends for many years and I remember her as a very giving and kind person. She will be truly missed. Naomi Weiss

I have known “Jeannie” Schur since I was a child. I was close friends with her daughter Linda, who was taken way too soon. My mom and Jeannie taught Sunday school together at Northshore Congregation Israel temple in Glencoe for many years. When my mom passed away in 2010, she came to mom’s house during Shiva and was there for me. I will always remember her fondly and feel blessed to have known her.
