Obituary
A proud graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1967, and Farleigh Dickinson University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education in 1971. Edie built a life grounded in perseverance, warmth, and loyalty.
It was in Brookhouse, Boston, where Edie met the love of her life, Kenneth, in the most charming of ways, when he “borrowed” her magazines so she would knock on his door. Their first date to Rockport, Massachusetts, sparked a lifelong partnership. The couple married on March 11, 1979, and soon moved to Chicago, where Edie became the backbone of Kenneth’s growing medical practice. Together, they built a thriving network of six offices serving northern Illinois, with Edie’s tireless dedication at its heart for more than 45 years.
Despite her life in Illinois, Edie never forgot her Boston roots. She renewed her Massachusetts driver’s license the day before leaving for Chicago and always kept a Boston sports cap close at hand, famously insisting that “there was no postseason if a Boston team wasn’t involved.”
Edie was a woman of remarkable spirit and drive. A competitive figure skater, she reached the Elite Eight at the 1980 Olympic tryouts, skating against legends like Peggy Fleming. She carried that fierce determination into every part of her life, whether battling it out at Scrabble, insisting on driving a taller car so she could “be taller than everyone else on the road,” or refusing to let fear or illness deter her. She celebrated her 39th birthday soaring in a glider, her 40th in a hot air balloon, skydiving in her 50s and 60s, and shared with her family her love of travel, exploring more than 50 countries, including a memorable trip to East Berlin.
Passionate about her heritage and community, Edie was a devoted advocate for Jewish causes and mental health charities. A long-time attendee of Congregation Beth Judea, she found strength and connection in her faith community, which reflected the values she lived every day. She was truly the foundation of her family, instilling in her children resilience, curiosity, and a zest for life.
Edie is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth; her sons, Andrew and David; her brothers Ralph and Edward (Shelley); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Thomas. She is also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Marcia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edie’s memory to Magen David Adom at www.mdais.org/en/donate.
Private family service.
Edie’s fierce spirit, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

I knew Edie through the office of Dr. Margules , as a patient of 35+ years. Edie shared her love of books by creating a lending library in the waiting room. We chatted when time allowed about a particular read book or author. I enjoyed listening to her creating vacations, adventures of sky diving and travels abroad. Her spirit of adventure could make many quake where Edie was smiling ear to ear looking forward to such. I believe Tommy has greeted his Mom and they will now enjoy this new adventure in Heaven together. God bless and keep them.

I have many wonderful memories of Edie. We met at the JCC. Edie and her mother made a yellow a-line dress for me and I had to lay on the kitchen floor to have the pattern cut out.
After graduation from BHS we went to the 1967 World’s Fair in Montreal. What an experienced. We saw how maple syrup was made, saw 3D films , textiles , and Habitat.
We both moved to Chicago at different times and reconnected .. Both married and would get together . We watched the famous Playoff game when the ball slipped thru Bill Buckner’s legs.. That was a memorable night.
Bob and I moved to Indy and The Margules family visited us. The first thing Edie did was designate 6 timeout stations . 3 inside 3 outside and they were all used. She gave me an assortment of coupons and taught me have to best use them.
Bob’s family is from Chicago and the last time we got together was Sept2023. We went out for dinner at Joe’s Crab . Edie was finishing cancer treatment and was feeling good .
Kenny and Edie were a team . They loved each other and their family .
I will miss my dear friend Edie but I know she is no longer in pain . She lived her life to fullest .

With perfectly manicured bright red nails, a can of Diet Coke, and a fierce blue minivan 🚐, Edie was a master multi-tasker. I had the privilege of meeting this dynamic family and getting to know them as a grade schooler, when I began to babysit for Tommy, Andy and David. Edie was the heart of the family and I was always in awe of her ability to do it all tirelessly. Reading her tribute, I realize even more that her skill sets were vast and she was more of a dynamo than I even knew. I am absolutely heartbroken at her passing. I wish Ken, Andy, and David much love and support during these tough times. Love to you all, from the whole Fearmonti family ❤️
