Obituary
Laura’s love of travel filled her life with adventure and infused her being with cosmopolitan worldliness. Curious and sharp, she always paid attention to the details, was generous with compliments and loved to laugh. Her love and talent for design, art, food and entertaining were constants. There was always an extra seat for guests at her table, thoughtfully adorned – regardless if it was Thanksgiving or just an ordinary Tuesday. Her mac and cheese and from-scratch key lime pie were second to none. She was also a devoted caretaker to her canine companions, Beauregard and Buddy, with whom she is undoubtedly walking over the rainbow bridge.
Laura graduated the University of Michigan (’86) and Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law (’89) with honors, and took her talents to then-upstart LR Development. She became Head of Sales and Marketing and alongside cherished colleagues, grew the business tremendously. Her legacy continues in thoughtfully designed buildings across Chicago’s skyline.
Through every chapter of her life, Laura’s devotion to her sons and their happiness was her north star. She was their fiercest advocate, she showed them the world, and supported them unconditionally. From the day she was born, her granddaughter Margot was the light of her world.

My Aunt Laura always knew how to make me smile. I could be having the worst day and give her a call. The call would always end with me smiling, rather than frowning. She always knew how to give it to me straight but in a loving way. I will never forget our ‘ome’ dates, where we would meet for egg white omelets (of course, because egg whites are healthier) and talk about the latest fashion trends and current drama in both of our lives. I truly believe that people come into our lives for a reason, and I know she were brought into mine and my sisters’ lives to be there for us in ways our parents couldn’t. And for that, I will always be grateful. Not a day will go by where I won’t think of her. Rest in peace to the most amazing angel up there. I will always love you.

Laura came into my life five years ago. The day we met was like we had been lifetime friends. She was always so present when we were together or talked. She made everybody feel like you were her most important person. I always admired that she not only was a second mom to my girls but lived everyday to its fullest and truly loved life and new experiences. I will never forget all her advice and funny wit. My favorite memory was a day we both ended up in Aspen at same time. We met up skied exactly the same to the point we could have been in Olympics for synchronized skiing. It was time for lunch and everybody wanted to go and take a breather She turns to me and says screw lunch let’s go burn some more calories. We skied together all day. She was such an athletic force and nothing slowed her down. I love you my Laura and you were an angel on earth and I know you are one in heaven.

I saw a post on Facebook and wanted to write to express my deepest sympathy to the Davis family. I met Laura at Ravinia grade school . We occasionally walked or rode our bikes to school sometimes making a stop to load up on candy at GSells. One of my fondest memories of Laura was sledding in the ravines behind her house with the rest of the Beech Lane crew. Such fun times. We lost touch after graduating junior high, but I will always remember Laura’s ever -present smile ! May she rest in peace.

I will never forget Laura’s vibrant personality. Whenever she stopped by the Hochbergs, I knew it was going to be a good day. Her energy was infectious, and she had a way of making everything feel brighter just by being there. It’s rare to meet someone who leaves such a lasting impression on everyone they meet. Laura’s spirit will always be remembered with love and gratitude. Rest in peace, Laura. You’ll never be forgotten.

Laura’s warmth, powerful will and personality was apparent nearly immediately upon meeting her 34 years ago. We enjoyed so many different life celebrations, common interests, and other joys throughout the years. Of course I would be reticent if I didn’t specifically name food, skiing, and watching and sharing stories about our kids’s expanding their footprint on this world.
I am devastated I can’t make the funeral today. Sh!t happens and cancer sucks!

Laura and I were neighbors, we met walking our sweet dogs. Laura and my youngest daughter had a very special bond and shared photos back-and-forth of all the little critters they would see on their walks. Laura had a beautiful heart,.

I remember Laura as this wonderfully bubbly and warm person whom I had the honor of meeting for a fine lunch in the crazy-hectic Red Hawk, one of Ann Arbor’s legendary establishments. We hit it off instantly by talking endlessly about our deep love of dogs of which Laura had a few at the time as did my wife Kiki and I. We also talked a lot about Jared whom Laura loved deeply and of whom she was rightly proud. Jared was one of my finest students in my 25-year stint as a professor at the University of Michigan from which I just retired. Jared also became a close friend whose friendship and affection I will cherish forever. It is through Jared that Laura’s spirit — her NESHUME — will live on forever! The world is poorer for having lost Laura! May she rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing!
