Obituary

Harry A. Hemleben, 91, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Marlene (née Schwartz) for 60 wonderful years; loving father of Joshua, Rachel (Mark) Mappa, Louis, and Esther; cherished Zayde of Zackary (fiancée Hannah) Mappa, Tanner Mappa, and Sophie Mappa. Harry was the adored brother of Harriet (Herbert) Paris, Josephine (the late Howard) Penn, Louise (the late Tommy) Muller, and the late Bertha (the late Aaron) Caplan, Regina Schaffer, and Rose Hemleben. He was a much-loved uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many. Harry was a true family man-firm when needed, yet always a “gentle giant.” After losing his father at a young age, he became the “man of the house” and proudly protected his six sisters, who affectionately called him “Bud” or “Brother.” Intelligent and endlessly knowledgeable, he could fix anything. He put himself through college, became a chemist, and took great pride in providing for his family. Despite his dedication to his work, Harry never missed the kids’ activities and was always present for Esther. He was an active member of Am Echad in Park Forest, a devoted member of B’nai B’rith, and an enthusiastic bowler. Harry was the heart of his family and will be dearly missed. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to Sertoma Star Services-an organization very near and dear to Harry-at https://sertomastar.org/. Graveside service, Tuesday, November 25, 2025; 1:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Park 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
