Obituary

Judith “Judy” Carmel (nee’ Nathans), 82, passed away on May 31, 2025; beloved wife and best friend of Arnold for 60 wonderful years; loving mother of Elana (Yoav Levy) Carmel-Levy, Naomi (Daniel) Carmel-Brown and the late Shoshana Carmel; cherished “Savta” of Sean, Sarah Mae and Nathan Levy and Joshua, Ari and Shai Carmel-Brown; much loved sister of Syd (Judith White) Nathans, dear aunt and friend of many. Judy was a force to be reckoned with, lived on her own terms, had a great sense of humor, and would give anything to anyone. She could light up any room, was an amazing cook who loved to host the holidays and taught many generations how to make challah. Judy was past president of Hadassah where she led many cooking classes as well as helped run fundraising sales. She loved singing, was an avid reader of romance novels but her most treasured moments were spent with her beloved family. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. The Carmels were friends with my parents, June and Dick Segal, Arnold taught us in the Synagogue school, and later Judy sang with my mom, my brother Bob, me, and Cantor Edgar for Kol Nidre. The Carmels were loved by many in Lincoln including my family.

I’ve known Judy for more than 50 years. I met her thru Arnold, her husband and my great friend. She was lovely in every way: a great mother and wife. She was generous funny, caring and kind. I loved her, and being around her. She always filled a room with he r spirit, and now will fill my memories with her continuing presence. RIP Judy.
