Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Bareck, 86 years of age. Beloved husband for 61 years to Rochelle “Shelle” (nee Greenblatt); devoted father of Arden (Earl) Edelcup, Philip (Margaret) Bareck, and Haley (Robert) Sommer; cherished grandfather of Shay (Mike) Clair, Brent (Christine) Edelcup, Brynn Edelcup, Alec Sommer, Bradley Sommer, Trace Bareck, Paige Bareck and Audrey Bareck; proud great-grandfather of Tanner Clair and Teagan Edelcup; loving brother of the late Lawrence (the late Madeline) Bareck; caring uncle of Darrin (Elaine) Bareck, Heather (Angelo) Athanas, and the late Steven Bareck. Jerry was born on June 18, 1938 and proudly served in the US Army. He was gregarious and outgoing, which served him well as he worked over the years as a salesman, sales manager, vice president and owner/president at various paper and chemical companies. He enjoyed going to the movies, sports, cars, reading and traveling. As a young man, he was a pitcher for 16 inch softball and also enjoyed the outdoors – especially the beach. He golfed and even tried his hand at paddle tennis. He spent his early years in South Haven, Michigan. In 1961, he met his wife Shelle at Morse Beach in Chicago and knew instantly that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. On May 26, 1963 they were married and had a storybook romance that endured until his passing. They briefly lived in Chicago before moving to Des Plaines and later Arlington Heights to raise their three children. Jerry was active in coaching and supporting his kids with their extracurricular activities. Throughout the years Jerry and Shelle enjoyed cruising, especially to Europe, their yearly trips to Florida as snow birds, and periodic trips to Las Vegas. But most of all he cherished his family. He adored his grandchildren and supported their sporting, extracurricular activities, and work endeavors. In his later years, Jerry and Shelle moved to Hawthorn Woods where they would host the family gatherings and watch their family grow. Recently they moved to Tamarisk NorthShore in Deerfield where he enjoyed going to the movies and spending time with his wife. Jerry and Shelle have 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of kindness, warmth and generosity in the lives of everyone he touched. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UNICEF, a charity Jerry was passionate about supporting, www.unicef.org. Funeral services are private.
