Obituary

Deborah Bass Shafran Cooper, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 90 years old. Deborah was born on November 15, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Morris and Annette Bass. The youngest of two daughters, she grew up in a loving home that valued learning, and community. In her early career, Deborah was a dedicated teacher, where she touched the lives of countless students with encouragement. Later, she built a successful career as an investment and insurance advisor, guiding families and individuals through important financial decisions with wisdom and care. Beyond her professional life, Deborah was a gifted artist who found joy and fulfillment in painting. Deborah was married first to Emil Shafran, with whom she shared many years of love and family, and later to Mike Cooper, who brought joy to her later life. She also leaves a devoted companion, Joe Goldstein. She is survived by her two daughters, Sara (Barry) and Lisa (Bill) and two stepdaughters, Michelle (Jon) and Nicole; her cherished grandchildren, Ethan (Alice), Alex, Daniel (Maggie), and Joey; and step grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Emily, Martine, Adam, William, and Marielle and her adored great-grandson, Arthur. She is also survived by her sister Adelle Carman. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with those who passed before her.
