Obituary

Eleanor “Eki” Greenberg (née Berliner), 97, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025. Beloved wife and best friend of Norman for 75 wonderful years. Loving mother of Rhonda (Dave) Cohn, Larry (Elaine Weiss), Sandy (Robb) Miller, and mother-in-law to the late Lori. Cherished “Bubbie” of Alyssa (Alex) Volkov, Ted (Stephanie Fine) Cohn, Kevin (Kassidy Stacey Greenberg) Greenberg Stacey, Matthew (Kristin) Greenberg, Daniel (Shira) Greenberg, Adam (Dr. Winter Johnston) Miller, Michael (Brianna) Miller, and Trudy (Dr. Jared) Hart; much-loved great-grandmother of Raya, Zahava, Ephraim, and Shira Volkov; Benjamin and Adina Fine-Cohn; Logan and Soren Greenberg, Wesley and Calvin Miller; and Madison Hart. Adored aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many. Eki was the youngest of eight siblings and moved to Chicago at the age of 16. She graduated from Marshall High School, where fate brought her together with her beloved Norman on a blind date. Eki worked for over 20 years as a secretary at Honeywell, and after retirement, she volunteered in the office at Skokie Valley Hospital. While raising their family, Eki and Norman loved traveling across the U.S. Later, their adventures expanded across the globe-including annual trips to Puerto Vallarta, as well as visits to Canada, China, and beyond. Eki had a deep love for the Fourth of July and fireworks, but above all, her greatest joy was her family. She remained exceptionally close to her extended family throughout her life. Eki will be dearly missed. Memorial donations can be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation, www.leukemiarf.org, or Congregation Beth Shalom, www.bethshalomnb.org/give.
