Obituary

Edwin “Ed” Cutler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, life-long student of history, and trailblazing entrepreneur, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Born in Chicago in 1933, Ed spent most of his adult life in St. Louis, Missouri, where he took a bold entrepreneurial leap and built a Burger King franchise empire from the ground up. At the height of his career, he owned and operated over 20 stores across the St. Louis area. A self-made restaurateur, he retired with great success at the remarkable age of 83. Ed was known as a thoughtful and generous man defined by principle, perspective, and leadership. Ed was the devoted husband of the late Eunie Siegel, his true soul mate.  He was the deeply loved father of Steven Cutler and his wife Robin, Susan Buxbaum and her husband Cary, and Alan Cutler and his fiancée Kathleen Dean.  Ed was a cherished brother to the late Arnold Cutler and sister-in-law, the late Sheila, and a loving uncle to Julie, Andrew, and Michael. He was the treasured grandfather of Jordan (Jamie) Cutler, Carli (Anthony) Maione, Matthew Buxbaum (fiancée Rachel Klein), Ryan (Leah) Buxbaum, Kory (Blaire) Cutler, Bari Cutler (fiancée Emmie Lane), and Shaylee Cutler and proud great grandfather of Nora, Ari, Camden, Cooper, Polly, and Kinsley. Affectionately known as “Ed the Eagle,” his passing marks the end of an era, but the legacy he leaves — in his family, his work, and the lives he touched — will endure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, www.fightingblindness.org.  Funeral services will be private.  For shiva and to leave condolences: www.shalommemorial.org, 847-255-3520.
