Obituary
Sherwin was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sheri Zuckerman (nee Teichner), his children Sara Labowitz (David Labowitz), Daniel Zuckerman (Julie Zuckerman), Michael Zuckerman (Andrew Zuckerman), his brother, Arnie Zuckerman (Debbie Zuckerman), and many nephews and nieces. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of Andrew, Caroline, and James Zuckerman, William, Stella and Max Labowitz, and Jack Zuckerman, all of whom adored him. He is also remembered with love by a large circle of extended family and friends.
A lifelong learner with a sharp and curious mind, Sherwin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and later completed his MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. His keen intellect and early fascination with the stock market, an interest that began at age 13, guided him into a distinguished career. He was a well-respected investment advisor, building his career as an early partner at Harris Associates, before founding his own investment firm, Zuckerman Investment Group. Sherwin grew the firm based on long-term relationships, a foundation of trust across generations, and a strong commitment to investment excellence.
Sherwin also served in the Illinois National Guard and remained quietly committed to his community throughout his life. His generosity and sense of responsibility were deeply felt by those around him, though he never sought recognition for it.
Sherwin will be remembered for his warm demeanor and steadfast love of family. His presence brought comfort and joy to those fortunate enough to know him.

As a personal trainer, I had the honor of working with Sherwin for years. He was a wonderful, kind human being. He was a gentle and very smart mentor. Even though I was there to help him, he helped me so much. As his illness progressed, he faced it with such determination and tenacity. He worked so hard. He showed me, that in the face of adversity, no matter what challenges you have to face, meet it with dignity, wisdom and love. I will carry this with me always.
He was a blessing in my life, as is Sheri the whole Zuckerman family. May his memory be a blessing. It is for me.

Farewell to one of my dearest friends. We met one night when he called from Harris Associates to Ruane Cunniff where I picked up the phone because it was late and Bill Ruane had left for the day. We shared the same training and investment philosophy and became truest friends, even after he left Harris and I Ruane. We’ve known each other since 1983. His legacy-his principles, Sheri and his wonderful family, his many devoted friends and colleagues- have quite a job to live up to him.
To many shared investment stories to tell, but the two of us contacted the state of Nebraska insurance filings to figure out what Berkshire was up to. He believed the answer was there if you did thorough research. He was “old school” in the best sense.
Our whole family will miss him greatly.

Sherwin and Perry had a special relationship, which Perry cherished. Perry had profound respect and admiration for Sherwin, both as a “legendary” investor (Perry’s words) and as a human being. He witnessed the courage with which Sherwin faced adversity – including his long and debilitating illness. His family, friends, and clients rewarded this fine human being with respect and love. Sherwin was a credit to his profession, family, and his heritage.

I was newly widowed at the age of 45 with four very young sons to raise. My brother insisted that I meet with Sherwin. At the end of our first meeting, many of my concerns left me. That was in 1988. Sherwin was a guide, a confident, and a man with a generous heart. I will always be grateful for that gentle man with his white rolled up sleeves talking to me like I knew what he was talking about. One of a kind. My condolences to his family, his staff, and all the clients who feel like I do.

I will always remember Sherwin’s quiet demeanor, crazy sense of humor (like Marlene’s), his kindness and generosity of spirit. He and Sheri always made us feel welcome whether in Chicago or during a visit to Florida. Sherwin will be missed by so many. May his memory be a blessing.

The memory I’d like to share is one that I thought until today was unique to me. Having watched the beautiful service, I know now that this was not the case, and the impact I felt from the moment I’ll share is simply how this great man interacted with the world.
I believe I was at a brunch after a family wedding, seated next to Sherwin. At the time, I was 5 years into a career I was quickly learning I didn’t actually care about. I was considering going back to acting or finding something new to pursue, but felt like I had invested all this time into the first thing, and was resistant to diving into new, uncertain waters. I don’t remember his exact words, but he had a beautiful sense of clarity that if I didn’t enjoy what I was doing, then I shouldn’t be doing it. It wasn’t the first time I had heard that idea, but his gentle clarity and resolve made the ideas stickier and the truth harder to deny. It’s eight years later and I now run a film production company, and get to work on projects I care about all the time. I live a life filled with creative projects that actually excite me.
I thought this conversation was a one-off, but I’m learning that this man simply wanted the best for the people around him, gently and lovingly nudging his family and friends in the direction of their greatest desires and truths. I’ll always appreciate that moment, that path it sent me on and my times with Sherwin. Beautiful service, beautiful family, beautiful legacy. Thank you all and thank you Sherwin.

Dear Sherri, Sarah, Danny, Michael, Arnie and Debbie and all the
Zuckerman family. I’ve known Sherwin most of my life. We grew up next door to each other on Mt. Pleasant. We played line ball, went to the beach and spent many hours playing cards. Our grandparents and parents were very close friends too. I remember Sherwin watching Sperry Rand stocks and charting them. I still have letters from him when he was in the National Guard. Hilarious!! As we got older we went to dark comedy plays and talked. Even though our lives went in different directions, we always visited with each other during the summer. I will always remember his kindness and love.

Uncle Sherwin was the light in the room. He always had a smile and a hug. Aunt Sheri as well! They are both held with such respect in my heart and soul. He will be missed so very much by myself, Aaron, Gavin and Harper. He loved to dance and sing at all of the family events, where I was eager to join him on the dance floor! He was always eager to know how we all were and what sandwiches we would want to order from Subs n More in South Haven. His appetite for conversation and fun at all the family dinners will always be a favorite memory. To say he will be missed is an understatement. I will always remember him for his kindness and warmth every time we were lucky enough to see each other. Rest easy,
Heaven has gained a special soul.

The world will have a void without Sherwin. Sherwin was the MOST loving person on earth.: kind, caring, generous, brilliant and would give anyone the shirt off his back. I remember meeting Sherwin when Sheri started dating him. He was in the reserves, uniform, shaved head and I remember adoring him then. There is a place in heaven for such an amazing soul. He will be missed terribly by everyone who knew him. There are no words for how it feels to not have Sherwin smiling, laughing and always sharing a kind word as well as cheating in Scrabble with non English words. I truly loved him….the best brother in law a person could have. And to my sister who gave her heart and soul every day to keep Sherwin smiling and healthy…..with love. May his memory be a blessing

I am one of Sherwin’s oldest friends from when I was 12 and he was 13. As part of our summer home community Sherwin and I were part of a warm close teenage group with countless memories, We stayed friends ever since. Our grandparents were friends and Sherwin was very close to my parents and became the investment advisor to them, my brother and me. Three weeks before he died I visited him at a Rehab Center where we discussed my upcoming financial planning. I am close to Sheri, Sara, Danny and Michael and his brother Arnie who Sherwin adored is one of my favorite people in the world. I loved Sherwin for over sixty years and his death will leave a huge hole in my life. He leaves a wonderful devoted family.
