Obituary

Abraham de Leeuwe, 92, beloved husband of the late Hetty nee d’Ancona for over 50 years; loving father of Isaac and the late David; dear brother of the late Evelyn (the late Paul) Richter; devoted uncle of his loving nieces; cherished companion of Helene Witt and her family. Al was born in the Netherlands and as a young boy his family moved to New York to escape the Nazi takeover of Europe The family returned after the war and when he turned 18 he came back to the US where he enlisted in the army and served in Morocco during the Korean conflict. He started work in computers which was a lifetime passion and then started his career as an airline pilot for 32 years. After retirement, he volunteered for the Soviet Jewry movement. He loved Jewish holidays, Jewish learning, synagogue services and Jewish cantorial music. He traveled the world visiting family in Holland as well as many other European countries. He also traveled across the US and loved the outdoors. He loved spending time with his loved ones. He was a special man. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Avenue Synagogue, Highland Park, nschabad.org. Chapel service, Tuesday 2:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. Shiva after the cemetery at the Greene Residence 899 Kimball Rd Highland Park.
