During a bbq at their home, I remember Howard showing me his text book and his vacation map. The enthusiasm he had for both showed me his love for teaching and family. He and Natalie had a lot of common interests which led to 62 years
of marriage.

We met Howard a few times at Saint Ignatius College Prep events. Howard was always friendly and very kind. May he rest in peace and may your memories be a comfort. It was a beautiful service and I thank you for making it available. The stories were lovely and made us wish we had known Howard a little better. Our deepest sympathies to Natalie and your beautiful family.

Many years ago, I was fortunate to be a teacher in Howard’s TIMS Program. Howard’s dedication to the idea that young children can learn deep mathematical and scientific concepts by engaging with challenging and fun activities and experiments was contagious. My fourth graders loved science time because they could explore, for example, what happens when you bounce balls from different heights, and then think about what happened in a structured way. I’d like to believe that they are among Howard’s lasting legacy.

Uncle Howard coming alive as he reminisced with me just two years ago about his graduate days at Berkeley. I will fondly remember meeting the Uncle Howard that Bonnie has told me so much about.

We remember Howard fondly from Natalie’s time at St. Ignatius. Howard’s quick wit, passion for teaching and learning, and love of life were amazing. Howard didn’t suffer fools and sloppy thinking! How grateful so many of us are for his gift of life! Our condolences to Natalie, Debbie and Stephanie and their families. Cathy Karl and Dave Ruthenberg

Howard was one amazing man! His curiosity about all things scientific was real and all-encompassing. He was most creative, too. Picture. Table. Graph. Questions. Who could ever forget? Howard will be long remembered by many, many more people than he ever met. Joanie Bieler

I have so many memories of being at the house with Debbie and always loved when Howard laughed. He had the best laugh. He was always interested in what we are up to and what music were we’re listening to in the basement (Supertramp! ). I’ll always remember standing in the kitchen with him chatting about so many things. He always made me feel part of the family.

I remember summer bbq’s at their home with family. I loved the map he kept pinpointing all the cities the family traveled to. I’ve become a world traveler and mark my locations, too. Howard will be remembered fondly.
