Michael B. Shiffman, 80, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with numerous medical conditions. Beloved husband and best friend of Marie (née Krohm) for 35 wonderful years; loving father of Caryn (Steven) Browning, Kevin (Debi) Shiffman, and the late Mindy Hope Shiffman; cherished “Grandpa Mike” of Zachary, Joshua, and Samantha Browning, and Sydney, Jakob, Charlie, Jeremy, and Elizabeth Shiffman; adored great-grandfather of Ryleigh, Kyleigh, and Sarah Browning; much-loved brother of Cindy (Steven) Schufeldt; adored son of the late Jerome and Sherlyn Shiffman; dear brother-in-law of Gregory (Mary) Krohm, Carol (Scott Summers) Krohm, and Christopher (Laura) Krohm; treasured uncle, great-uncle, and friend to everyone who knew him. Michael was a kind and gentle soul. Raised in Morton Grove, Illinois, he attended Maine High School and shared a particularly close bond with his grandfather, Phillip, who worked in Chicago’s poultry markets. Michael spent countless hours by his grandfather’s side, developing an appreciation for the food industry that would shape the course of his life. After studying business in college, Michael pursued a successful career in the dairy, egg, and poultry industry as a buyer. He was known throughout the industry for his tireless work ethic, integrity, and the lasting relationships he built over the years. Michael often worked seven days a week, finding fulfillment not only in his work but also in the people he met along the way. While he was respected professionally, his greatest accomplishment was being a devoted father to his treasured children. Together, they enjoyed family road trips and camping adventures that created lifelong memories. Michael met the love of his life, Marie, at a health club and, after reconnecting through mutual friends, the two quickly became inseparable. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and travel, especially enjoying cruises together. Outside of family, Michael’s greatest passion was hockey. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cougars, Winnipeg Jets, and a longtime season ticket holder of the Chicago Wolves, hockey brought him immense joy. He often said, “It’s not a game unless it’s played on ice.” Owners, vendors, and colleagues throughout the industry knew the name “Shiffman,” and many also knew of Michael’s unwavering devotion to the sport. He loved traveling with family to attend games and sharing his enthusiasm for hockey with those he loved. Michael also developed a deep passion for genealogy and meticulously created a family tree encompassing more than 300 relatives spanning as many as six generations. Preserving his family’s history brought him great pride and joy. Above all else, Michael’s greatest joy was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
