I am deeply saddened to hear of Alan’s passing. I know that there are few words that may truly help during this difficult time as I too recently lost my husband (same name, though spelled Allen).
During 2023, Alan was selected as my mentor through a mentorship program at work. As we got to know each other, it became clear how passionate he was about passing on the knowledge and wisdom gained over his life and 50 year career. He spoke highly of the people that mentored him and wanted to pay that forward.
While I am not a banker myself, my takeaways from Alan stay with me: to always keep learning (and to learn from each other), to do a job well, to build strong relationships/friendships, cherish family and of course, when you get a chance – pay it forward.
Alan, you were a stand-up guy, one of the good ones whom I was blessed to have met. Rest in peace, my friend.
Fine family, please accept my deepest condolences. You are in my thoughts.

I will always remember your grin when we went to lunch at Yen Yen’s and our endearing conversations and your ability to unselfishly connect anyone in need to someone who could help. Just one of your masterful unselfish contributions to all.
I dearly miss you.

Dear Corlys, though we never had a chance to meet, Al spoke very fondly of you and his children every time we had lunch at Joe’s Seafood. At our last lunch, he mentioned about you and Al having dinner at Coco Pazzo with my wife and me. I regret that that will not happen. Apart from being a well-respected, old school banker and client, Al was a long time good friend whom I will truly miss. My condolences to you and your family.

Our parents owned a two flat together on Claremont Ave in West Rogers Park when we were growing up. I have many memories of Alan, his sister Bonnie, my brother Barry and myself playing together in our yard, our little park and in Lakeside on the beach. Rest in peace dear cousin.

Remembering My Old Friend, Alan Fine
Today I learned that my very good old friend, Alan Fine, passed away. Alan and I grew up together in grammar school and junior high school, and hearing this news brought back so many memories. In my mind, I can remember Alan like it was yesterday.
I remember that great smile of his. I remember him living on Avers Street in Skokie, and his dad, Milt, who owned a butcher store. I remember Alan being a lefty and the hitch he had in his baseball swing. He also had a temper when we were younger, but he eventually outgrew it. These are little things that have stayed with me all these years.
As we got older, our lives took different directions and, unfortunately, we lost touch. But every now and then, our paths would cross. Alan would stop by my jewelry store when he was working for a bank downtown. It was always great seeing him, and for those few moments, it was almost like we were kids again.
It’s amazing how the mind works. I can remember so many great times Alan and I spent together growing up. I can remember his smile, his personality, his baseball swing, where he lived, his family, and all those little moments from our childhood. Yet I couldn’t tell you what I had for dinner yesterday.
I now wish I had stayed in contact with Alan. I think that’s one of the hardest things about losing someone from your past. We always assume there will be another opportunity to pick up the phone, get together, or simply say hello. Sometimes we don’t realize how much those old friendships mean until it’s too late.
Alan was part of an important chapter of my life. He was one of those friends from childhood who helped create memories that stay with you for a lifetime, even when years go by without seeing each other.
Today, I am grateful for those memories. I am grateful that our paths crossed again when he would stop by my store. And most of all, I am grateful that I had the privilege of knowing Alan and calling him my friend.
Rest in peace, Alan. I will always remember that smile.
