Larry H. Schulman, 94, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Ina Lee (nee Mallin) for 55 wonderful years; loving father of Marla (Daniel) Polito and Scot Schulman; cherished grandpa of Matthew (Stacey) Polito and Shayna (Mark) Cardwell; adored great-grandpa of Mikayla, Maia and Charlotte Polito and Weston and Rocko Cardwell; much-loved brother of Cyrene (the late Warren) Clark; dear brother-in-law of Leween (David) Kay; treasured uncle of Stephen, Lyle (Gail) and Allison Kay, Frank (Laura) and Mark Walsh, and Carrie (the late Harold) Elling; great uncle and wonderful friend to many. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he was set up on a blind date with his beloved Ina. They quickly fell in love, married and began their life together, starting a family in Chicago. They later moved to Hoffman Estates and eventually back to Chicago to help care for aging parents. Larry was always willing to care for others and lend a helping hand. He worked as an engineer for many years before pursuing his passion for education and becoming a professor, where he inspired generations of future engineers. He was exceptionally intelligent, curious, and always eager to learn, making his journey to teaching others a natural fit. Larry was devoted to his family, and family was truly his everything. He loved magic, telling dad jokes, writing poetry, creating calligraphy and enjoying spicy food. He was known for his quick wit, warm smile and always having a kind word to share. Larry was a true giver, and one of his proudest accomplishments was his involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Becoming a grandfather and, later, a great-grandfather brought him immense joy and pride. Larry will be remembered for his remarkable mind, generous heart, wonderful sense of humor and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Memorial donations in Larry’s name may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago at www.bbbschgo.org.
