Obituary
Eugene “Gene” Sollo, 95, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 25, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Lenore (nee Bronson) for 65 wonderful years; loving father of Wendy (Charles) Dickson and Tami (David Wheeler) Sollo; cherished “Bopi” of Caitlin Dickson, Jordyn (Parker) Slade and Joseph Bloom; adored great-grandfather of Rooney and Scottie Slade; much-loved brother of the late Harriett (the late Donald) Schaffer; devoted son of the late Leonard and Rae Sollo; dear uncle and friend to many. Gene was an exceptional businessman whose career included many years as Vice President of Encyclopedia Britannica before he went on to establish his own marketing and sales company. He was passionate about his work and took great pride in his accomplishments, but his greatest success was always his family. Despite the demands of his career, Gene was a constant and devoted presence in his family’s life. He took an active interest in every aspect of their lives, offering unwavering support, guidance, and a helping hand whenever needed. Whether as a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, or an adoring great-grandfather, Gene made sure his family always knew they could count on him. His love was reflected not only in what he said, but in the countless ways he showed up for the people who meant the most to him. Gene was a lifelong Cubs fan. He also enjoyed a good game of golf and had the opportunity to travel the world through his work. Yet, for all his professional accomplishments and experiences, his greatest pride and most meaningful legacy was the love he gave his family. He will be remembered for his dedication, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial donations in Gene’s name may be made to the Jewish United Fund at www.juf.org. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
