George Arthur Platt passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Miami, Florida, just a few days shy of his 90th birthday. He was born in Poland to Pearl and David Platkevich and spent his childhood in Colon, Panama. As a teenager, George moved to Chicago to study at the Yeshiva. There, he met and married his beloved Judith Brody in 1959. They were married for 52 years, until Judy’s passing in 2011. George was a multi-hyphenate before that was a common term. Professionally, he was a successful manufacturing business owner and later worked in insurance. His love for Judaism and the Jewish community had no bounds. He was a founding member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Northbrook, IL and served in various board positions including President in the 1980s. His voice carried beyond the boardroom and into the sanctuary where he regularly davened, read Torah, and chanted haftarah on Shabbat, Yom Tov, and High Holidays. George also held multiple leadership positions in United Synagogue including Regional President and National Vice President. His love for the Chicago Cubs was only exceeded by his love for Judy, his children and grandchildren. A long-time season ticketholder, the 2016 World Series was a dream come true. Even in his last days, he was wearing his vintage Cubs jacket and hat. George was a devoted and loving father to his children, Shari (Andrew Fersten) Cohen, Kenneth Platt and Jeremy (Rachel) Platt. His grandchildren, Brittany, Matthew (Hana Abrams), Landon (Sara Vincelli) Cohen, Jordan Platt, Lauren Platt, Dylan Platt and Ari Platt were his pride and joy and they were lucky to spend many fun times with their beloved Poppi.
