Obituary

Mae Shanberg, 92, née Dorfman, beloved wife of Edwin Shanberg, happily married for 56 wonderful years; proud and loving mother of Mark (Rachel) Shanberg; cherished Grandma Maezie of Emily, Tyler and Joshua Shanberg; dear sister of Sandy (Jill) Dorfman; Mae was a treasured aunt, cousin and friend of many. She will be remembered for many reasons, especially for her sharp mind, warm hugs, big smile and words of wisdom. To those she loved, she never wanted to talk about herself, she wanted to know how you were doing and what she could do for you. Maezie you were one of a kind, whose memory will be forever cherished. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mae’s honor can be made to The Gwen Knapp Canter for Lupus and Immunology Research, https://www.uchicago.edu/education-and-research/center#G, click on Gwen Knapp. Chapel service Friday, March 20, 2026, 2:30 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W.
