Obituary

Susan A. Stewart, 74, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Edward Stewart; loving mother of Norman Cohen; proud grandmother of Noah Cohen; beloved sister of Bobby (Joan) Kassel and Michael (Laura) Kassel; adored aunt, great-aunt, and friend of many. Susan had a heart as big as her smile. The middle child of three siblings, with two brothers, she was a true “tough cookie” whose strength, resilience, and determination carried her through life’s challenges with grace and humor. She raised her son, Norman, in Los Angeles, where the two developed an extraordinary bond that grew into a lifelong friendship. Their relationship was built on unwavering love, trust, trials by fire, and honesty. Despite many obstacles, they remained each other’s greatest source of strength and support through life’s joys and most difficult moments. Susan later found lasting happiness when she married her beloved husband, Edward. Together they shared many wonderful years until his passing in 2023, a loss she carried with enduring love. Known for her quick wit, generous spirit, love for being a caregiver and infectious sense of humor, Susan had a remarkable ability to brighten any room and make those around her smile. She was fiercely devoted to her family and treasured every moment spent with them. Her kindness, warmth, and unconditional love touched countless lives and created memories that will be cherished forever. Susan’s loving spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the National Association on Mental Illness, www.namiillinois.org. Entombment: Randhill Park Mausoleum. Chapel service, Tuesday, June 30, 2026; 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights, IL.
