Obituary

Michael “Mike” Greenhill, 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 9, 2026. Beloved husband and best friend of Debra (nee Rothblott) for 49 wonderful years; loving father of Lindsay (Abi) Goldshtein, Evan (Ricky Meyer), and Daniel (Jeniffer); cherished “Baba” of Jacob, Raphael, and Liev Goldshtein and Sienna Greenhill; much-loved brother of Mark (Elizabeth); brother-in-law of Mickey (Susan) Rothblott; and treasured uncle and friend to many. Michael was born in Chicago and raised in the Chicago suburbs. He graduated from Glenbrook South High School and was an alumnus of Bradley University. Mike met his beloved Debra while they were in high school, beginning a true love story that would span more than five decades. They later married, settled in Highland Park, and began their family. Along with his brother, Mike owned and operated a specialty steel manufacturing company that grew into a successful multi-generational family business. During his tenure, he helped grow the company exponentially, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues under the guidance of his son. Mike was a dedicated and loyal friend who cherished his core group of “Best Friends from GBS,” while continuing to make new friendships throughout the years. To know Mike was to love him. He had a zest for life and embraced every opportunity to enjoy it. Mike especially loved being the captain of his cherished boat, the “Sea of Green”. His Marquis 720 was his island away from the rest of the world, according to his First Mate David. He also enjoyed playing the piano, building model helicopters, listening to music, visiting the casino, and traveling. Mike was a generous philanthropist, though he was extremely humble and down-to-earth about his generosity. He gave freely and quietly, never seeking recognition for the difference he made in the lives of others. But above all, Mike’s greatest joy was his family. Becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest gifts of his life, and he treasured every moment with his grandchildren. His love, laughter, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those closest to him created memories that will be cherished forever. Mike will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, generosity, zest for life, and deep love of family and friends. His presence touched countless lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial donations may be made to Chabad Jewish Center of Rancho Santa Fe, www.chabadrsf.org or Fraida-Cameron Chabad Center Wilmette, www.chabadwilmette.com/mike. Chapel Service, Wednesday, August 12, 2026; 10:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
